Water Fun! We Love Our Jet Skis!

Have you ever wondered how jet skis came to be? And did you know that they are really called “personal watercrafts”? It’s true. Jet Ski is a trademark of Kawasaki for their line of watercrafts. Jet Ski has become a generic term for all personal watercraft, just like Coke and Kleenex often refer to other items of their type. But, you’re forgiven if you refer to your watercraft as a jet ski!

Jet skis have been around for a very long time. Early water scooters were introduced in Europe in the mid 1950s. By 1973, Kawasaki introduced them as a way to waterski without the need of a boat. These early editions didn’t have seats and the rider had to stand up which proved to be challenging at times.

And the rest, as they say, is history. They exploded in popularity and new models were introduced with seating, allowing for two riders. Today, they are fast fun machines. And, believe it or not, they can reach up to 60 miles an hour.!  So, if you don’t have a jet ski, consider renting one and taking it out for a spin. Chances are you’ll enjoy it so much you’ll want one of your own!

March – Madness & St. Patrick’s Day

Basketball fans rejoice! It’s March Madness. But, as we all know, March Madness can bring on some unhealthy actions. Don’t fall into that trap! Especially since St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner. It will be way too easy to overdo “eating and sitting” this month! But, you can still have fun while staying healthy.  Here are a few tips from Divasrunforbling.com and Livesgtrong.com:

PLAN Plan your meals and snack ahead of time and take something healthy to a party.

EXERCISE Don’t skip your workout! Do your exercise routine in the morning so that you don’t miss any of the action

SMART SNACKS Add some veggies and fruits to the mandatory platter of wings and chips and dips.

Eating out Choose a sports bar to watch the games that has a menu with some healthy options.

Beverages Drinks are loaded with calories and drinking too much will carry over to the next day! Try to match each alcoholic drink with a glass of water or soda water.

Meet The Team

Meet Elissha Krieter, Retention Specialist
Elissha is one of ARCW’s newest employess, and she brings 12 years of insurance background to the office. We recently interviewed Elissha and learned some great things about her, including her favorite insurance savings tip.

elissha kreiter grandkidsQ: What is your favorite ice cream?
A: Mint chocolate chip, can’t get enough of it!

Q: What is your favorite holiday?
A: I’m very close with my family, so Christmas is the day I look forward to all year.

Q: What is the one thing you cherish that is insured?
A: That’s easy – my grandkids. It’s the best gift I can give them.

Q: You’ve been in insurance for over 12 years. What is the one piece of money savings advice you wish all your clients knew about?
A: Without a doubt, it’s paying your premiums on time, but then I’d be out of a job! But seriously, I scratch my head when I see how hard some people work to shop around just to reduce premiums by 10 or 15%, and then lose it all in habitual late fees. Paying late is a two-edge sword… if you pay late, you rack up late history, and you also lose any potential savings. I know insurance is expensive, and things are tight for everybody, but not many families have extra discretionary income they can waste on something easily avoidable.

Hit the Trails

If running is your “thing”, you already know that a great pair of running shoes is a must. But if you’re new to running, you may not know which shoes to purchase. We found these 6 tips on RunnersWorld.com to help you find the perfect pair of running shoes. After all, if your feet aren’t happy, you won’t be happy either! Their tips are:

  1. It should fit snug, but not tight. When they are laced up (not tied), you should be able to slide your feet out.
  2. The shoe’s upper should feel snug and secure around your instep.
  3. Your foot should be able to move side-to-side without crossing over the edge of the insole.
  4. Your feet will swell and lengthen over a run, so make sure there’s a thumb’s width of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoe.
  5. Check the flex point before you put on the shoe. Hold the heel and press the tip of the shoe into the floor. The shoe should bend and crease on the same lines that your foot does.
  6. Find a shoe that matches your foot’s contours and movements.

Check out runnersworld.com for more information about finding the right shoe for you and then hit the trails!
